How to insert eye drops

Immediately after instilling the eye drop, press the bridge of the nose with your thumb and forefinger or with the forefinger of each hand for 3 minutes. Keep your eyes closed for another 3 minutes after instilling the eye drops. This prevents most of the drop from traveling down the tear duct to the nose where it can be absorbed by the blood system and travel to the rest of the body. This will maximized the time the drop stays in the eye, increasing affectivity and preventing possible side effects in other parts of the body. If you are inserting two different eye medications, wait 10-15 minutes before instilling the other medication because the volume of the first drop exceeds the capacity of the eye to hold eye drops.
